A Direction Towards Career: Career Lab/Graduate Training

“Career Lab/Graduate Training” was a two-day long career booster training for graduating students and fresh graduates who are looking to get a head start on their professional life. Graduate schemes enable new recruits to settle quickly into a professional work environment, receive relevant skills development, and get hands-on experience and guidance for working in different roles in different areas of the organization.

The training mainly focused on sharing ideas to participants on preparing their CV and resume, Writing a Cover letter, Job Interview Preparation, and also provided guidance for Formal writings which included Email Etiquettes, Meeting Minutes, MOU Writing and so on. The course was facilitated by Ms.Sadiksha Thapa, HR Executive; Fairfield by Marriott.

Resume and CV

Ms. Thapa explained about Resume informing the participants about the basic things that should be considered before writing it. She provided information about the font size, Professional information should be mentioned with an email address and other information. She explained resume and CV are two different things and need to be updated within 3 months. Ms. Thapa added that every resume needs to be amended and provided as per the job description and relevant skills. The participants got an overview of what the perfect resume looks like and can stand out in a crowd. Likewise, she answered to the queries from the participants about resume writing. It was truly an informative topic as many questions and confusion were answered that made a clear understanding view for the participants.

Purpose of Writing

Ms. Thapa described the participants about formal writing and methods. Writing can be divided into all kinds of different categories. One of the main divides is between informal and formal writing. Formal writing includes business writing, formal letters, and academic writing. Although business writing and academic writing, for instance, have some differences, all formal writing shares certain features. She also dealt with identifying the audience, choosing good words, words, and sentences that should be used in formal emails also discussed some basic rules of formal writing.

Likewise, she also explained about MoU Writing. Which is really important in the present context. Apart from that, the participants also learned about the grammar lessons that are basic and have to be used in formal writing. In addition to this, the most important course was about Cover writing. The participants learned about cover writing with a detailed explanation from the instructor. They had lots of queries which were answered. Likewise, preparing for a job interview was another content that was covered in the session. An important part of interview preparation is to take the time to analyze the job posting if you have it. The instructor suggested the participants make a list of the skills, knowledge, and professional and personal qualities that are required by the employer and are critical for success in the job. Several components were introduced that are necessary for a job interview. They were – Formal wears, Good voice command, and words, Good body language. Likewise, she also shared other essential interview tips that were very informative.

Career building is not easy. It requires efforts that need to be done to guide your path towards success. We believe this course will pave your way towards success.
