How we present ourselves in front of people plays a huge role on how we are perceived as an individual and the impression we make. There is an infamous saying, “First impression is the last impression”. This saying emphasizes how we interact and communicate when we meet someone for the first time affects how we are perceived. When we are speaking or delivering, we are doing so for the audience to hear. It could be to inspire a group of people, encourage them or spread knowledge on a certain topic. Therefore, as a speaker, one needs to excel in front of an audience in order to influence the crowd and make an impact.

Speech
Speech, in this case, means the way you talk to the audience and deliver the subject matter. The selection of words we choose in order to convey the message is very important. Using concise, relatable language and following it with explanations ensures that your message is clear and impactful.
Body Language
Imagine this, someone on the stage is speaking without using any sort of body language. No matter how knowledgeable the content may be, due to the stiffness of the body and absence of movements, the presentation thus becomes dull and tedious. Hence, it is important to use intentional body movements while speaking. Incorporating hand gestures, coverage of the stage, eye contact adds more depth towards the message the speaker is trying to deliver.
Vocal Variety
When we are speaking, using different vocal variations adds expressiveness and clarity into the speech. Delivering a speech includes conveying certain messages or sharing one’s personal life story where different emotions are expressed in the time being hence, vocal variation must be added according to the emotion the speaker is trying to convey. . A difference in tone, for example, when a speaker is speaking using an enthusiastic tone then this will automatically motivate the audience. With the help of varying pitch, tone, volume and pace, the speaker will be able to both engage the audience, attract their attention and express themselves in a much free way.
Know Your Audience
Before delivering any kind of speech, one must be mindful of the audience. The speaker should make sure the audience is well fit for the content that is being delivered and the message is relevant to the crowd. The content that is being delivered should be targeted towards the audience to ensure their attention and interest.
Audience Engagement
Delivering a speech by engaging the audience is a way for them to actively listen to what is being said. Engaging the audience by throwing out a question or involving them in an activity will result in the audience feeling included as well. Today, we all have quite a short attention span hence to bring everyone to actively listen, audience engagement is a must.
Practice and Prepare
It thus all comes down to practicing and preparing. As a speaker, one must be always ready to take over the stage and claim it as their own.
